Penny Proud :Voiced by Kyla Pratt, is a teenage protagonist is usually embarrassed by the way her parents act. She enjoys hanging out with her friends, even though they have gotten her into trouble, and left her to face danger by herself many times. She listens to and respects her parents, but often caves in to peer pressure. She is also somewhat of a feminist at times, and is very logical.

Oscar Proud

Voiced by Tommy Davidson, Penny’s over-protective father who some may call a born loser; he is the longtime rival of mogul Wizard Kelly, and is the owner of Proud Snacks (which makes anybody who eats them sick except Peabo, who is the only person who likes them). Oscar Proud is unique in that he of all the other characters in the show exhibits the most overt signs of being a Toon; his body responds to over-the-top physical reactions by squishing flat as a pancake, burning into a puff of ashes, stretching thin as a rubber band, glowing x-ray skeleton style, etc. Penny shows early signs of this as well, and Suga Mama repeatedly makes references to Penny “taking after her daddy”. Even though Oscar lacks a good physical shape, beautiful women often seduce him. Oscar has attempted many times to have an affair with many different women, but Trudy always catches him. Even though he has an irrational weakness for other women, he loves his wife very much.

Trudy Proud

Voiced by Paula Jai Parker, Penny’s ambitious, loving and rational mother is respectful of others and works as a veterinarian. Since she makes more money than Oscar,[dubious – discuss] she asserts dominance over him at times. She gets very annoyed when she catches Oscar flirting with other women.

BeBe & CeCe Proud/Puff the Dog

Voiced by Tara Strong, Penny’s trouble-making 2-year-old twin little siblings often torture Sugar Mama’s pet poodle. BeBe is a boy with a huge afro and always has a bottle in his mouth, while CeCe is a girl with brown hair and a pink dress with pigtails. BeBe and CeCe are namesakes of the gospel music brother and sister duo, BeBe and CeCe Winans.

Suga Mama Proud

Voiced by Jo Marie Payton, Penny’s hip, wrestling-loving grandma who does Tae-bo. She is very sassy, and always gets straight to the point when she talks. She constantly insults, discourages and beats up Oscar, but she loves him deep down. Her age is unknown, and often made fun of by her son. An event from twenty years ago shows her looking exactly the same as before, an indication that she could be very well over ninety. Suga Mama is in love with Papi.

Dijonay Jones

Voiced by Karen Malina White, Penny’s somewhat eccentric and fat friend is heartfelt and a backstabber but hilarious & honest; she has yellow hair and is in love with Sticky Webb. Dijonay is loud and she’s always getting Penny into trouble. She’s very similar to Kim Parker (The Parkers) in appearance and personality. She is also the cheerleading captain at her school.

Sticky Webb

Voiced by Orlando Brown, Penny’s friend and Dijonay’s love interest, though he dislikes her rather strong come-ons. Though he does have feelings for her, he only let those show once in one episode. He is very intelligent and knows a lot about computers. Sticky’s still upset because his parents got a divorce. He also seems to have bit of a crush on Penny.

Zoey Howzer

Voiced by Soleil Moon Frye, Penny’s nerdy friend. Zoey has red hair, braces, freckles and tall. She usually shows low self esteem at times, and always tries to show others that she’s not all nerd. Zoey loves animals and has a scratchy voice. Zoey’s aunt is a lawyer and her mom’s a limo driver.

Lacienega Boulevardez

Voiced by Alisa Reyes, Penny’s on again/off again friend. She’s Hispanic and is extremely rude to Penny (but makes sure the adults don’t know that). She is also a cheerleader at Penny’s school and is one of the most popular girls there. There is no reference to it within the show itself, but Lacienega and her mother Sunset share their names with actual streets in Los Angeles, California. Deep down Lacienega’s jealous because Dijonay would rather hang out with Penny than her and Lacienega doesn’t like to share Dijonay with Penny. Lacienega’s also insecure due to having big feet. .

Michael Collins

Voiced by Phil LaMarr, Penny’s homosexual male friend, and is a good fashion designer and basketball player. He’s also a choreographer. In public he’s forced to call his father “Coach” instead of “Daddy”, as Michael’s dad is the coach at Willy T. Ribs Middle School.
